WEDDINGS & ANNIVERSARIES 3 OF 5

Hi Everyone

Well my internet seems to be behaving so I am going to post now .. .. just in case it goes AWOL again!!! LOL!!

Today's share is the third in my wedding and anniversary theme and is a wedding card.

This used:

Image and Sentiment:  Pink Petticoat "Happily Ever After" .. .. (not sure if this is still available)
Backing Paper:  Pink Petticoat "Perfect Papers"
Nestabilities:  Grand Rectangles
Glamour Dust
ProMarkers
Ribbon, Button, Pearls and Gems from the Stash Box

The ribbon I used is some of that magic ribbon that has a thread running through it so that it can be pulled and gathered up to make a sort of ribbon flower.  I am hoping to find some that is super thin as I think it looks really lovely .. .. ..  and a super fine version of it would be brilliant.

I have been listening to the radio whilst working and have been hearing of another proposed re-vamp of the education/examination system.  I do feel sorry for teachers .. .. I am sure they don't know whether they are coming or going half of the time from a procedural point of view .. .. let alone having to deal with kids too!!!

But after an experience I had earlier this week I am sure things are going wrong somewhere.

I bought goods that totalled £4.50 and gave the assistant £10.50 to pay for them as I wanted a £1 coin in my change.

The assistant gave me my change .. .. .. £6.50 !!

I offered the extra 50p back saying "I think this is yours".

The assistant replied with a confused look on her face "Is it? Yes, I think it is isn't it?  I'm not sure.  Don't worry your receipt will be printed off in a minute and that will tell us".

Excuse me but I didn't need a till receipt to tell me .. .. my peanut sized brain had managed to work it out already .. .. all on its own! LOL!!

Did I get a "thank you" once the assistant had decided it wasn't mine .. .. .. .. nah!!!!

OK .. . .back to work for me.  Invitation inserts next.

Have a great rest of Thursday.

Love

  2. Beautiful card Jules - I love the ribbon flower - not quite sure I get how you make it but I do agree it's gorgeous! I love the tiny gems on the roses too - perfectly highlights and draws in the eye.
I know just what you mean about assistants - I tried to give the "odd coins" so that I just got pound coins back and I was told that they couldn't be accepted as she entered just the tenner and therefore the change wouldn't be right in the till! Good grief - wasn't it better when we used fingers not calculators for everyting!!!!

  3. Jules, I know exactly what you mean. I worked with someone in the past who was a 2nd year Uni student and couldn't work out in their head how to subtract 31 away from 100? These people will be looking after us in our old age!!!! It boggles the mind!

Anyway love Pink Petticoat and have made a card myself using the backing paper you have used!

Sam is doing his first year GCSE's this year and the school have told him that this year they have been made more difficult! About time I think - not every pupil can be an A* student surely!

I'll get off my soapbox now and give someone else a chance!

  5. Love your card Jules - this is such a pretty set from PP and I love the way you have decoupaged the cake.
Your experience with the change does not surprise me at all (unfortunately). Guess the kids today are too reliant on technology and have forgotten how to use their brains :0)

  9. That ribbon is very pretty Jules, I've seen the shiny type for gifts that draws up, bit never a sheer one.

    Pretty soft colours as well.

  14. Hi Jules, I thought this might be a Pink Petticoat image before I read your list, they are so distinctive aren't they? The papers are nice & simple too, a perfect match. Love that ribbon too, it makes such a pretty flower. Your story about the silly shop assistant doesn't surprise me as I've met quite a few of them as well. I've even had to deal with one who actually added up using her fingers!

  17. Hi Jules, lovely card. That ribbon is quite beautiful. I'll have to seek some out!

I agree with you, it seems that shop assistants aren't taught how to count change back to the customer, so totally reliant on the technology rather than brain power! You need something to fall back on if the technology fails!

  18. YES! I know exactly what you mean Jules - I'm always having to give back bits of change that people have overpaid me and it's always me that's noticed! Anyway I shall meekly return to my cage now and tell you I love your gorgeous card. That cake with the popped up roses (or are they swirls?) is just stunning! Vicky x

Oh I know what you mean about the young shop assistants… I bought some envelopes at Post Office yesterday.. two at 99p and two at 70p… well you should have seen the girl scratching her head trying to add it up.. she had to get paper and pen and do a very time-consuming long division…it's not that difficult is it?? even I can do it in my head and my Maths is rubbish!!! LOL definitely something wrong with the education system!!!

  28. This card is beautiful and I was thinking - now how did she do that bow. Read the blurb and the penny dropped. I have some of that ribbon - very narrow - that I got at the NEC a while back. Used it once and forgot about it. Must rake it out and have another go with it.

  30. Love the card Jules. If you can't find any suitable thin 'magic ribbon' why not try making your own. I haven't actually tried it myself but feel that it would be relatively simple to create using a length of ribbon and some matching or contrasting embroidery thread. It's worth a try ...

  33. Lovely card Jules. Your cutting/piecing is wonderful; I wish I could cut that well. The background paper is a perfect match for the digi stamp. Well done!!

Your story about the shop girl made me laugh a bith, though it's sad to see its not just American kids that are stupid as rocks. Like Sarah said: its a bit scary that these kids will be responsible for us some day. ACK!!

  37. Your card is both sweet and adorable AND elegant! How you found that balance is beyond me, but it's awesome!

I know what you mean about the native intelligence sinking, sinking ... it's happening over here, too. How countries think businesses are going to be successful in the future with idiots running them ... yet, that's what we face with more and more cuts in education. Dumb, pun intended.

    Okay, off the soapbox.

  41. gorgeous card Jules, I love the wirly roses all the way through the card!!!

oh gosh its a worry isn't it with some of these kids! It always used to frustrate me when people would think I was stupid for working on a checkout, when fact is I was able to calculate faster than the computer was! (I worked in the cash office at nights, as soon as I mentioned that to them, they soon hushed! lol) But for sure, a lot just don't care or use their brain anymore, as they say common sense aint so common :- p lol!

rant off ;-) heheh Have a great weekend Jules.
