My photo
A very warm welcome to my teeny, tiny part of the huge world of blogging. This is where I share my passion for making hand made greeting cards. So - why "Always with a Heart"? Well this is for two reasons. Firstly, it is because every card I produce carries a heart on it somewhere. This can be big and bold or small and almost hidden - the fun sometimes is just trying to find it! Secondly it is because I put my heart into everything I produce. I hope that any visitors enjoy seeing what I post. If you drop by then please leave me a comment so that I know you called. It would be nice to know that you have found my heart in what I do.

JULES' CRAFTY SNIPPET CHALLENGE - WEEK 37

Hi Everyone

Well hopefully Mr Blogger is being kind to me and has posted this whilst I am on Day 2 of our Arts Festival.

My lovely Sis and I will be a little bit sad today because once Sunday comes around the Festival is nearly over .. .. and this year will be extra sad as it may be the last one .. .. .. sadly funding to support the Festival has been lost  :-(

We really enjoy this weekend and look forward to it all year.  It must be our fourth year of doing it this time and we are finding that some people return each year to see what we have done this time.

But never mind .. .. we have another wedding fayre coming up at the beginning of October.  That will be keeping us out of mischief for a while!!

So, because of the Festival I needed to close the snippet playground gates early this week .. .. otherwise I wouldn't have time to compile the register .. .. and that would never do.  But I would like to apologise to those that hadn't realised it was closing early .. .. don't worry though I am happy for you to link your makes this Sunday .. .. it would be a shame to miss them!!

Firstly though here are my snippet makes for this week

and now it is time to call the register of all my lovely snippet playmates for this (short!!) week .. ..

First to the playground this week was Carol who brought along three of the most gorgeous Christmas ATCs.  I love the one on the left .. .. Santa with a small child sharing the magic of Christmas.  I am sure these little ATCs will have made a nice little hole in Carol's snippet box as they are all pyramaged.   Mmmm... must remember .. .. multiple layers means multiple snippets used!!!!!

Carol was very closely followed by Mags who shared a really bright and beautiful card that has used "oodles" of snippets.  Mags used hers to do some "iris folding" and even managed to sneek a few hearts into the mix as well!!   But even after using all of these lovely snippets Mags has now ended up with even smaller ones .. .. tee hee .. .. I know the feeling well!!  The strange thing is the smaller ones seem to take up more room as when they are piled on top of each other they make the snippet pile taller than it was to start with .. .. or is that just me!!

Elizabeth shared two wonderful snippet makes this week .. .. the first being something very different for the snippet playground .. .. an altered set of drawers.  How fabby they look now .. .. you can see a great before and after transformation here.  But not content with using up a mini mountain of snippets Elizabeth returned to the playground later in the week with this lovely birthday card.  Again a card that is beautiful front and back and on the inside too!!

Irene was next to come along to share her snippet make and this week she utilised lots of her white snippets .. .. I think we are all guilty of having far too many of these so thank you Irene for showing us that an "all white" card can be super beautiful.

Mandy was next in line to share her creations .. .. yes creations .. .. she also visited the snippet playground twice this week.  Mandy's first project and be seen here and the second one here.  Lots of gorgeous snippets have been used up on Mandy's makes this week .. .. and I really love the paper on the second one!  I am a bit of a soft touch for papers with letters or numbers or writing.

A beautiful pink Christmas card was shown around the playground next by Sarah.  How cute is this?  Lots of gorgeous details and a lovely bit of paper piecing .. .. this is such a great way of using up those little bits.  I actually did a little tutorial on Monday showing how I do my paper piecing .. .. if you didn't see it on Monday then you will find it here.

Andria was the next to arrive in the playground waving a beautiful bookmark.  I just love the butterflies on this very, very much.  Of course I had to look what book deserved such a wonderfully delicate and romantic looking bookmark .. .. ..and the title made me smile!!  I would have had to make a red bookmark for this book LOL!!  (No .... I'm not telling you the title .. .. you will have to go and look for yourself LOL!!!).

My next playmate was Catherine who has been working well on her snippet mountain and created two gorgeous cards this week.  The first one you will find here and the second one here.  As usual Catherine's makes were using snippets not just on the outside but on the inside too.  Gorgeous colouring and shading to admire too!!

Along next came my snippet mate Sandra who is celebrating this week.  Her lovely creation was made using the very last of her orange snippets .. .. she has been determined to see the back of these and now that is it .. .. they are gone!!  Woo hoo!!!  Well done Sandra!!  I hope you don't find a few more of them hidden away anywhere LOL!!!

Sally then arrived with a beautiful birthday card.  I love the colours on this and wouldn't say no to full sheets of these snippets!!  They look gorgeous.  Fabby layout and love the butterfly too.  Great make Sally and I think the adhesive lettering is brilliant!!

Tammy called by next and brought with her a beautiful card and a matching gift tag.  There is a lovely owl theme happening and such gorgeous colours too .. .. especially the base card.

A new face appeared in the playground next .. .. and her name is Becky.  She had been given directions by the lovely Jenny.  Becky shared a wonderful robot card that used up some lovely snippets .. .. and there was no rubber stamp involved.  The robot was made with paper shapes and doodling!!  Brilliant idea!!!  Thank you for finding us a new playmate Jenny!

Screeching up to the playground gates next was Di.  Poor Di hadn't realised the playground gates were closing early this week .. .. but she made it in time and brought along with her a fabulous paper pieced image.  The card was dedicated to me (thank you Di) and the image has a dress with hearts and there are hearts in the little girls hair!!!  LOL!!!  Fabby use of a good few snippets here!!

Then last but by no means least was Hazel sharing a fantastic Autumn card.  Again some beautiful paper piecing going on with Hazel's card.  I love the colours on this creation very much and the leaf is super scrummy!!!

So that is my register for this week.  Such an amazing number of people happy to play along in a challenge that carries no prizes .. .. I feel very honoured to have so many regular playmates.  Thank you for keeping me company each week.

Well I say there is no prize .. .. there is the satisfaction of seeing your snippets used up!!  LOL!!!

The playground gates are back to normal closing times again this week .. .. Saturday night at midnight!!

Take care everyone and I will see you again tomorrow with my Happy Hippo Day 3 (you might struggle to find the heart on this one LOL!!).

IT'S GOING WELL !!!

Hi Everyone

A quick progress report.

The Festival today got off to a very slow start .. .. we started at 10.00am and didn't see a customer until gone 12 noon !!!!

We were starting to think it was going to be a disaster but then the crowds just seemed to appear and we have had a bostin' day.

Fingers crossed that tomorrow is a repeat performance!!!

There have been a few rain showers but they didn't seem to dampen anyone's enthusiasm so that was good!!

My snippets should magically appear tomorrow (all being well).

We are off out for an Indian now!!  What a fabby weekend!!

PENNY BLACK SATURDAY CHALLENGE

Good morning everyone

Well here I am with my "penultimate" GDT card for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge.

There were lots of lovely entries into last week's challenge .. .. loads of cupcakes to be seen!!  LOL!!!

This week the theme is "Friendship" and here is my creation:

This used:

Image:  Penny Black "2288K" Furry Embrace

Shrink Plastic

Flowers and pearls from the Stash Box

I have just realised that all of my GDT cards have been pink!!!   Whoops"""  Oh well, my next and final GDT creation next week "will not be pink" that's for sure!

NEARLY READY !!

Hi Everyone

Well I am "nearly ready".

I have been packing all of my wares into boxes, getting my display stuff from out of the roof, table covers from drawers and change together for my float.  Every time we do this I say I should do a check list .. .. do I ever do it .. .. no!!!

Have I done it this time .. .. no!!

Perhaps if the weather is as bad as we are being forecast I will be able to make one whilst waiting for drenched customers to come through the door.  LOL!!!

But on a positive note they did give rain last year and it was actually quite nice .. .. so fingers crossed.

I'm afraid I haven't made a card to share today .. .. I made my snippet makes for showing on Sunday .. .. so I will share another of the samples I made for Anice to show off the new Happy, Happy Birthday CD from Funky Hand.

It is quite a clever CD and even has some pre-coloured images (which is what I used here).  Brilliant if you are in a rush!!!

So apart from the CD all I have used are my nesties, nail heads, ribbon and a charm  .. .. can't be bad.

I hope you all have a good weekend.

ONLY A ROSE

Hi Everyone

Just a flying visit from me tonight I'm afraid as I have a mountain of cards that need to have inserts put in them before being packed up into their liitle cellophane bags ready for taking to the Festival.  We are setting up tomorrow evening so time is now running out.

The weather forecast isn't good!!  :-(

Normally it is gorgeous weather (and today would have been brilliant for it) but at the moment the outlook is wet!!

Never mind .. .. we will have fun whatever.

So to make amends for not having enough wedding cards here is a quick and simple one I made today

This used:

Image:  Anita's "26646" Love and Cherish
Gold Embossing Powder
Josy Rose: Nail Heads
Ribbon and flower from the Stash Box

and that is it.  Not many ingredients for this one.

I love the way the embossing goes all bubbly and uneven.

So no blog visiting for me tonight :-( and probably not even until Sunday evening I'm afraid when the Festival is over .. .. but I will be posting some creations in my absence just to keep you busy finding hearts!!  LOL!!!

Take care everyone.

Catch you when I do

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Hi Everyone

I hope your day has gone well.

I am busy trying to prepare for the Festival at the weekend.

Poor Hubby has come home tonight to find a six foot table in the bedroom and all of the stock I have for sale scattered all over the bed .. .. separated into all the different types of cards.

Now I have done this I can see there is a definite shortage of baby and wedding cards in the House of Hearts .. .. looks like they need to be my focus for a little while!!

In the meantime my share today is a sample I made for Anice to take to Create and Craft tomorrow (Thursday, 15th September) .. .. I hope you get chance to tune in .. .. or set your box to record.  Two separate shows .. one at 9.00am and another at 4.00pm.

Anice will be launching the new Happy, Happy Birthday CD as well as sharing samples from the other Papercraft Factory CDs too.

So here is one of my makes .. .. I wonder if it will get an airing tomorrow?

The CD has some great templates on it for making Funky shaped cards .. .. this is just one of them.  It is such a fun CD.

Well I had better go and clear that bed so we have somewhere to fall into later!!

Have a good evening everyone.

BABY BOY'S BIRTHDAY PLUS HANDY HIPPO VOUCHER WINNER

Hi Everyone

Here mega quickly today to share the birthday card that hubby and I made for our baby boy's birthday on Sunday.  Time is going far too quickly  .. .. it doesn't seem two minutes since he arrived on the scene!!

He is a super, uber talented musician so this seemed a really appropriate image for him:

This used:

Image:  Teddy Bo
Sentiment:  Computer Generated using a free font from Two Peas in a Bucket called "2 Peas Gift"
Go Kreate Die:  Large Frames Scalloped Squares
ProMarkers
and  lots of love!!!

So what was hubby's input in the creation?

He thought up the words for the top of the easel (considering one was his Son's name it wasn't too time consuming) and he also rummaged about until he could find a plectrum to use as the "stop" for the easel.  Where did it appear from?  The garage of all places?  Oh well, at least we had one.

So who "was" the winner of the Handy Hippo gift voucher?   Kerry was overwhelmed with all the comments that came through and you can find the winner on the Handy Hippo post here.

That is me for today.

I will catch you again tomorrow.

HAPPY HANDY HIPPO DAY - WEEK 2

Good morning everyone

Happy Monday to you all!!!!

First of all can I just say a huge "THANK YOU" to everyone who left lovely messages on my Happy Handy Hippo Day launch last week.

It was lovely to read all of your comments .. .. not just those relating to myself but also all of the messages confirming what a super friendly on-line store Handy Hippo is to shop at.  It was so nice of you all to say such wonderful things.

Kerry will today be scouring all of the comments you left last week and tomorrow I will announce the winner of the £10 voucher.   I wonder who it will be?!?!?!  Nothing to do with me that part .. ..thank goodness .. .. I hate choices !!!

So round now to my second Happy Handy Hippo Day and my next creation.

My project this week actually utilised two stamp sets and I paper pieced the little cupcakes.

I hope you like it.

The super magic button was very popular last week .. and here it is again .. .. click below to see all the lovely goodies I used for this creation.  They will have been automatically added to a shopping basket and you can remove anything you do not need (or add anything you can't resist).

I thought it would be nice if some weeks I show you how I actually "do" some of the things on my creation.

I have been crafting now for a few years and sometimes I think we take for granted what we know, and assume that everyone will know how we have done things just from looking at our creations .. .. but of course this isn't true.

Some people might only just be starting out on the addictive path of cardmaking and might appreciate a few little hints and tips along the way.

So if ever I do anything on my cards that you would like to know more about, then please ask, and I will attempt to show you what I have done.  Not that I see myself as an expert -  far from it - I still have loads to learn and master myself .. .. but I am happy to share "what works for me" and hopefully encourage others to try different techniques.

I don't care what you ask .. .. as with all things it is only easy when you know how!!

Anyway, in the hope of sharing some of my knowledge and inspiring new crafters to "have a go" here is how I do my paper-piecing (brilliant for using up little snippets of paper):

1.  I always stamp with a memento ink pad so that if I decide to add a bit of Promarker shading I can.

I stamp my image onto my background card and on as many pieces of patterned paper as I wish to use.  In this instance I have only stamped onto one patterned paper but could have used one paper for the cupcake case, another for the cupcake top, and another for the heart.

2.  Next I cut the stamped image out from the patterned paper.  I have chosen to use just the cupcake  case and the heart.

3.  I always use a zig 2 way glue pen for attaching my paper piecing to my main image and actually prefer to add the glue to the main image rather than to the back of the patterned paper.

Because the glue comes out a blue colour I can see exactly where I have applied it.  (It dries clear though so if you have accidentally gone outside of the image lines it isn't the end of the world).

I find that if I add the glue to the patterned pieces it makes them harder to attach because they can be so small, fiddly and sticky!!  Nothing worse than sticky fingers and dinky bits of paper LOL!!!.

4.  I sometimes like to tickle my paper piecing with my Promarker.. .. just to give it a bit of depth.

When paper piecing I sometimes just keep the image with the plain background and use that as the main focus on my creation and other times I cut the whole of my paper piecing out and use it as an embellishment .. .. as in my project today.

I hope that this helps.

If you decide to have a try at paper piecing as a result of my little tutorial please leave a comment here on this post to let me know as I would love to come and have a little look at what you have done.

I want this to be a happy friendly and sociable place to visit on a Monday .. .. so if you succumbed to any of the lovely goodies using your discount code last week I would love to hear what you bought .. .. and even see what you have done with your purchases in the weeks to come.

Have a lovely Happy Handy Hippo Monday and don't forget to call back tomorrow to see if you were the winner of the £10 voucher!  Best of luck to everyone who took part.

Edited to say:

The winner of the £10 Voucher for spending at Handy Hippo has been passed to me by Kerry and the luck person is:

Ta da!!!

I have linked Clare's blog as I am sure you will want to have a peep at her fantastic projects.

Congratulations Clare .. .. I am sure you will find something super scrummy to spend your voucher on.  Have fun!

If you drop me an email Clare I can give you your instructions for spending your prize

JULES' CRAFTY SNIPPET CHALLENGE - WEEK 36

Hi Everyone

Sunday yet again .. .. .. where are the days and the weeks going?

Yet again it was another very busy playground with lots of playmates.  Surely between us we must have saved at least the branch of a tree between us?!?!?!?

There will be a bit of a change this week as I am at a two day Art Festival in Melbourne (Derbyshire) at the weekend so the snippet playground gates will close at midnight on Thursday to give me time to write my post up ahead of taking all the stock I am hoping to sell to the Festival.  I will be sleeping at my lovely Sister's for a couple of nights so will have to schedule my post.  This also means I will be cheating and will make my snippet creations during the week ready for posting on Sunday.

This week I have three snippet shares and here they are  .. ..

So it is now time for the snippet register and what a lovely bunch of playmates called by the playground this week .

The first eagre beaver was Lynne who shared two lovely cards .. one of which was a great Christmas card and the other featured a really beautiful Spellbinders Bordabilities Die (only look if you can be really strong or if you have some crafty stash pennies hanging about!!).   Lynne has been a very faithful snippetier for quite a while now .. .. and even shared pictures of her snippet stocks .. ... and yet she is saying her snippet pile is as big as ever!!!  I know the feeling Lynne if that makes you feel any better LOL!!!

Sandra was bright and early too and could be seen waving a gorgeous card featuring a sweet LOTV image and great snippets .. ... proving that blue and green "can be seen"!!!!  Please say your snippets are reducing Sandra?!?!?!?

Next along was Sally who used her snippets to make a wonderful background for her great make.  Great colours and a lovely cupcake image too!!  Always a winner in my book!!   Mmmmm.... cupcakes!!!  LOL!!!

Mandy called by the snippet playground next .. .. in fact she called by twice this week ... the first time sharing this lovely creation here and the second time with this little beauty here.  Two great makes Mandy .. thank you for sharing them.  I did have to smile when I read Mandy's second post .. .. she is finding that having to feed her husband is getting in the way of crafting a little .. .. I am beginning to think that is why my hubby is starting to get into cooking!!!  If "he" didn't cook then some night's we wouldn't eat LOL!!!  But he never complains ... .. bless!!

Hazel also called by the playground a couple of times this week.  The first time with a card that featured a lovely snippet flower that you can find here and the second time with a birthday card that features the most beautiful snippet I have probably ever seen (the one that runs across the centre of Hazel's card) and you can see this here.  Tee hee!!  I might have had to save that gorgeous snippet Hazel and just stroke it every so often!!  LOL!!!

Then Sylvia called by to share a fantastic creation that featured not just paper snippets but some extra special snippets from a perfume bottle!!!  How special was this make .. .. and how inspirational!!  This one just goes to show that you never throw anything away .. .. it all comes into play eventually!!

Di was the next in line .. .. with a card in both hands!!  Two lovely makes that were "the same but different".  I love the stamps that Di used on these ... both the gorgeous flower and the sentiment.  A great look!!  Be prepared to be jealous folks because Di now has her own "in house critic" .. .. if you ever need an opinion on a creation perhaps you could email a picture over to Mr Di for his artistic opinion!!  Ooops .. ... I think your "in box" is full Di!!!  LOL!!!  Sorry about that!!!

My next playmate was Sarah who managed to find her way to the playground all on her own without the aide of her husband and a map (make sure your read Sarah's post!!).  Loving Sarah's card.  Gorgeous flowers and colour combo.

Lisa then called by the playground and made us all laugh with her "silly cow" card.  How fab is this?  A super neat card .. .. great layout and gorgeous colour combo.  A brilliant make.

Another busy snippet reducer this week was Irene who shared two gorgeous makes.  The first one you will find here .. .. I think Irene is going for the record for using the smallest snippets ever!!! The the second creation you will find here .. .. and this little beauty is using a fabby Penny Black stamp that Irene managed to buy for £1 at a car boot sale!!  Bargain or what?!?!?!!?  Well done Irene!!

The next share in the playground came from Tammy and made me smile.  It was very appropriate as it was a brilliant "report card" make.  Fabby colours and gorgeous stamps and embellishments.  Lovely!!

Then next along was Catherine who has had a brilliant snippet week and was struggling to bring all of her lovely creations for sharing .. .. she just didn't have enough hands!!  LOL!!!  The first one you will find here,  the second one here and a third one here!!  How busy and hyperactive you have been Catherine .. . and all your makes are gorgeous.  Your snippet mountain must have been reduced more than anyone's last week - especially as you decorate the insides so beautifully too!!  Well done (and I see a few hearts too!!  LOL!!).

Then Elizabeth came along with a stunning Christmas card that was just as beautiful on the back as on the front and this too involved snippets!!  Very inspiring and such rich colours.  Thank you for sharing Elizabeth.

Beryl used her snippets very creatively too and did a spot of paper weaving!!  A great way to use up those snippet strips.  Beryl's card was also very co-ordinated with a Christmas bauble theme going on!!  Very well thought out and put together!!

Then last but not least for this week was Debbie who has created her very first ATC cards .. .. and how lovely they are too.  Debbie managed to incorporate her tiny little tags into her projects again this week .. .. I think they should be her little trademark .. they look gorgeous!!

So that is the end of the register for this week.  Thank you so much to everyone who kept me company and provided all the lovely inspiration.

At this point I will apologise for my lack of visiting at the moment .. .. life is a little busy in the House of Hearts at the moment .. .. but by this time next week it will be calming down a little.  I have had a week of lovely bride and grooms, the ongoing website design experience (with its associated photo taking) and I am trying to prepare for the Festival I mentioned at the beginning of this post.  Busy, busy craft pod (and dining room table, and kitchen worktop and spare bedroom LOL!!)

I will be back tomorrow with my Happy Handy Hippo Week 2 project.

Don't forget that today is the last day for using the special code AWH20 for getting 20% off all the goodies in the store (including those that are already reduced by up to 75%).  Click here to go to the store.  This special offer finishes today at midnight!!!

So that is me for today.  It is my baby boy's birthday today .. .. .. 28 today!!  (Which if you do the math means that he was 18 the day of the Twin Towers disaster - and I can remember the day as clear as anything.  A very mixed day of happiness and sadness).

We are off out for a birthday meal later and I will share the birthday card I made for him on Tuesday .. .. even Hubby had input!!  We are both quite proud of it and baby boy loved it!!

Catch you soon

2ND PENNY BLACK SATURDAY GDT CARD

Hi Everyone

Well I am aready round to my second GDT card with Penny Black Saturday.

Half way through already :-(

This week the theme is "DELICIOUS".

Well in all honesty I think that should mean I could use any of the Penny Black stamps I own because for me they are "all" delicious .. .. but in the end I decided I had better use something that includes something delicious to eat.

What better than a birthday cupcake?

This used:

I hope that you all have a great weekend and I'll see you tomorrow with my snippet makes and snippet register.

GROOVY CATS

Hi Everyone

Well I was a good girl and tidied up my craft pod this morning .. .. it feels so much better in there now with everything back in its rightful place.

I can concentrate and think so much better when everywhere is tidy.  Is that just me or has it been scientifically proven to be the case for everyone?

So round to my share of the day.

I have been itching to use this sheet of backing paper for ages .. .. but just didn't know what image to put it with .. .. then today whilst on my tidy up campaign I find just the right one ....

My make used:

Image and Sentiment:  Woodware Clear Stamps "FRCL124" Groovy Cats
Backing Paper:  Raspberry Road
Josy Rose:  Nail Heads
ProMarkers

and that is it.

Quick and simple tonight!!

I'll catch you again tomorrow with my Penny Black GDT creation.

RUBY WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Hi Everyone

Well I'm not getting much better am I?

Late again!!!  But I have at least finished the card I half started yesterday.

I have worked on that many different projects today that it looks like a whirlwind has hit my craft pod .. .. I think tomorrow starts with a good old clear up!!!

So I will be super quick...

Here is my make

This used:

Sentiment:  Computer generated
Go Kreate Die:  Frilly Squares #3
Scor-pal embossing board
Glamour Dust
Ribbon, pearls and charm from the stash box

I did do a sideways view for you to show the fine line of glamour dust I have added around the sentiment but the glare of the mirror card was just too much for the camera to handle LOL!!!

To be fair though I don't think there was much to be gained from it!!

I hope you have all had a good day .. .. .. there was actually a bit of sunshine to be had late afternoon in my neck of the woods.

I will catch you again tomorrow .. .. who knows what time?!?!?!?!?

NOT MUCH EARLIER ?!?!?

Hi Everyone

Well after promising to be a little earlier tonight .. .. I'm not  LOL!!!

The share I was going to share with you isn't quite finished !!

Just what is going on in the House of Hearts?

Well in short .. .. .. lovely weddings .. .. that's what!!  But of course I can't share those pictures.

So instead I will share a little peep at some of the papers that are on the lovely new CD Anice will be releasing soon.  The DT has been having a little play with the CD and producing a vast array of samples ready for an up and coming TV launch.

The CD is called Happy, Happy Birthday and is due for release around the 10th September .. .. so not long for you to wait.  There are some really scrummy papers and digital images.

Here is one of my samples that is winging its way to Anice as I type:

Surprise, surprise that this heart was the very first digi image I printed off .. ..  and there are so many gorgeous papers, including some lovely pastel ones this time too .. .. as well as the bright Funky ones!!!

Right, time for a late dinner !!

Catch you again tomorrow .. .. .. with the make I didn't finish today! LOL!!

Have a great evening.
